The European Association of Fertilizer Manufacturers, Fertilizers Europe, recently published a press release highlighting the significant impact the war in the Middle East is having on global energy markets and the fertilizer supply chain. - Currently there are no fertilizer availability problems in the European Union (EU), thanks to our production capacity and the high imports recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, just before the CBAM came into force.

- Although the EU has barely imported any Iranian urea in the last three years, the Persian Gulf region has a very significant urea production and, given that fertilizer markets are global, any temporary disruption of supply can have a rapid effect on the global market and affect the costs of nitrogen fertilizers.

- European fertilizer manufacturers are working to maintain a reliable supply during this period of great uncertainty, and recognize the vital role our farmers play in ensuring our food security.

- The war in the Middle East has further worsened the already difficult situation of European industry, which was under great pressure from some of the highest energy prices in the world.

- The current situation has once again demonstrated that it is vital for the EU to have a robust fertilizer production capacity.

Finally, Fertilizers Europe points out that if the situation persists or worsens, European authorities should consider strengthening their support for farmers and bolstering the resilience of the fertilizer industry.
